Various methods of Car Shipping

Car Shipping is by two methods one is Ro Ro that is Roll on Roll off, way and the other is the Carrier method. In the Ro Ro method the vehicles are moved under the deck. They are driven inside the ship and are safe in the hold against wind and water to the car deck.

Packing is not needed in this method of shipping. These vessels are purpose built created in such a way for the shipment of cars. This method is the most easy, effective and the most affordable  method of car shipping. Most of the manufacturers utilize this method of car shipping. The cars are driven off at the destination port.

Another method of car shipping is the container method. In this method the cars are loaded directly into a steel shipping container of about twenty feet or forty feet container. This is exclusively the customer's container and it can be loaded with some personal items like spare tires etc under the vehicle. This is not possible in the Ro Ro method of shipping. A lot of cautious handling has to be done when loading the car in a container. There are flooring rings with ratchet straps and wooden chocks for wheels in the container to which the cars are to be firmly locked into position and carefully protected.

Cars can either be gathered by the company from the customer's door which are then loaded into the containers at the port of exit. The customer should not forget that when the car is ready for shipping it should have a quarter of a gallon of petrol in it.

When shipping cars the customer should understand the international customs formalities as they differ from one destination to another. The rates of car shipping differ according to the traffic to that specific part of the world to where it is being moved and also the distance to where it is being moved apart from the size of the vehicle.

In some routes, several car shipping companies provide very lucrative car shipping rates because of the volume of return traffic from that place or country. The charges from the door rely on the distance from the house to the port of exit. Also the insurance charges are applicable from the time of collection of the vehicle from the door or from the port of exit.

Companies adjust to the car shipping expenses relying on the amount of competition, oil prices and currency fluctuations and several other factors. The volumes of shipment to and from a specific country also influence the car shipping rates. The most frequently used method of car shipping is Ro Ro.
